An exhibition of works by artists Suzanne Tourtelot and Orval Reeves opens with a 6 p.m. reception on Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the lobby of Leach Theatre in Castleman Hall on the campus of Missouri S&T.
Using white cotton as her canvas, Tourtelot merges the disciplines of painting and quilting into her own art form. “The free-motion threadwork that completes the work brings the piece to life,” she says. “It is a constant source of delight and challenge for me.”
Reeves uses watercolors to create realistic impressions of the outdoors. “The challenge of capturing the moods of nature with color light and design has always appealed to me,” he says. His paintings have hung in the White House and the Missouri governor’s mansion.
The artists’ work will be displayed in the lobby of Leach Theatre from September through December.
