The University of Missouri-Rolla will offer a short course on blasting training October 15-17.
The 20-hour course is sponsored by the UMR Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center and the mining and nuclear engineering department in conjunction with the Missouri Limestone Producers’ Association. It provides basic training for blasting in the crushed stone and construction industries.
The course fee is $550 for members of the Missouri Limestone Producers Association and $600 for all others. An optional MLPA certification examination after the workshop for a fee of $25. A one-day refresher course is also available on Monday, Oct. 15, or Tuesday, Oct. 16, for a fee of $200. Course enrollment is limited to 40, so advanced registration is encouraged.
The course director is Dr. Paul Worsey, senior research investigator of explosives research at the Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center and professor of mining engineering at UMR. Worsey has more than 25 years of explosives and blasting experience and has been involved in blasting training for more than 15 years.
A detailed set of course notes will be provided to each participant enrolled in the three-day course. A DVD/CD-R containing course notes will be provided to participants enrolled in the one-day refresher course.
