Classes resumed at the University of Missouri-Rolla today (Tuesday, Nov. 14) after electrical power was restored to most of the campus late Monday night.
Much of UMR was without power after one of the campus’ two substation transformers failed at about 7 p.m. Sunday. New fuses were shipped to the campus late Monday to replace the blown fuses, and power was restored to most of campus Monday night.
Two buildings – the Curtis Laws Wilson Library and the Materials Research Center (Straumanis Hall) – are still without power. Those two buildings will remain without power today, and crews will attempt to supply power to those buildings after hours tonight.
The outage occurred at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday and affected most buildings on campus. Classes were cancelled on Monday because of the outage.
All classes are in session today, and staff should report to work as usual today.
The loss of the transformer means that the substation’s ability to supply power to campus has been diminished. All faculty, staff and students are asked to help conserve energy in order to keep from tripping the main circuit breaker.
