Sean Michael Eagan of Union, Mo., a senior in applied mathematics at the University of Missouri-Rolla, recently received a $3,000 scholarship from the American Mathematical Society (AMS).

The Waldemar J. Trjitzinsky Memorial Awards are given to students in financial need who have declared a major in mathematics at a college or university that is an institutional member of the AMS.

Eagan transferred to UMR in January this year after completing more than three years of work at East Central Community College in Union, Mo. A father of two, he supports his family and his college expenses by working at Wal-Mart.

“Even with the time demands of work and family, Sean earned at 4.0 GPA during his first semester at UMR,” says Dr. Robert Roe, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics.

Eagan would like to continue on to graduate school after completing his undergraduate degree at UMR.
