Dr. Robert Mitchell, dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla, will speak to prospective UMR students and their families on Thursday, Oct. 6, at UMR’s annual “Rolla Night” at the Engineers’ Club of St. Louis, 4359 Lindell Blvd.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a social hour and information fair. All prospective college students and their parents, teachers and counselors are invited to attend.
Mitchell will speak about educational opportunities available to students choosing to attend UMR. Mitchell holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He also has a master’s degree and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
UMR’s newest chancellor will welcome attendees. Chancellor John F. Carney, former provost and vice president for academic affairs at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass., began his duties at UMR on Sept. 1, 2005.
A student panel will also discuss the campus and its educational programs. An informal reception will follow the program, and UMR faculty, students and other UMR representatives from all degree programs will be available to answer questions.
