Dr. Wayne Huebner, vice provost for research and sponsored programs at the University of Missouri-Rolla, is the speaker for this year’s Engineers Week Banquet to be held Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Havener Center on the UMR campus.
Social hour for the banquet begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The cost of the meal is $15 with a menu of beef Wellington or salmon. The banquet is sponsored by the Rolla Chapter of Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, Mid-Missouri Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Fort Leonard Wood chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers, and the Rolla subsection of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
To make reservations, contact Dr. Keith Stanek, the Fred W. Finley Distinguished Professor of electrical and computer engineering at UMR, at (573) 341-4545 or email stanek@mst.edu.
UMR students also are taking part in Engineers Week’s global outreach effort by forming an Engineers Without Borders (EWB) chapter at UMR. Similar to the more established Doctors Without Borders, EWB works to improve the lives of people around the world by building infrastructure such as water systems. Roughly 65 students attended the first informational meeting, says Dr. Rick Stephenson, the group’s faculty advisor and professor of civil engineering at UMR.
Engineers Week 2005, Feb. 20-26, is observed and celebrated by many communities around the country. The National Society of Professional Engineers started Engineers Week in 1951 to highlight the continuing progress and contributions being made in the engineering profession.
