The commanding general of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., is the speaker for this year’s Engineers Week Banquet to be held Friday, Feb. 27, at the Audie Murphy Club in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Social hour for the banquet begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The cost of the meal is $15 with a menu of beef, turkey and lasagna. The banquet is sponsored by the Rolla Chapter of Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, Mid-Missouri Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Fort Leonard Wood chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers. UMR students also are taking part in Engineers Week. The Advanced Aero Vehicle Group, the Concrete Canoe Team, the Formula SAE Racing Team, the Human Powered Vehicle Team, the Robotics Team, the Solar Car Team, the Solar House Team, the Steel Bridge Team, Keramos and the UMR student chapter of the American Ceramic Society will display samples of their work at the St. Louis Science Center during the weekend of Feb. 28-29. Each of these student organizations competes annually or semi-annually in events in which students design and construct projects for racing or other testing.
National Engineers Week, Feb. 22-28, is observed and celebrated by many communities around the country. The National Society of Professional Engineers began Engineers Week in 1951 to highlight the continuing progress and contributions being made in the engineering profession.
