Missouri S&T students pitch their startup concepts for cash prizes

Glassiderm, a treatment for acne scars developed by three Missouri University of Science and Technology students, won the $5,000 first-place prize in the university’s second annual Startup Challenge on Nov. 13. S&T developed the challenge to give all students the chance to experience presenting a business model to a panel of judges with entrepreneurial experience.

Kummer Day of Giving match program raises over $750,000 for Missouri S&T students

Missouri University of Science and Technology supporters recently doubled the impact of their donations thanks to a matching challenge. The donations from 74 alumni, eight S&T employees, and a few donors who requested anonymity totaled $350,000, which was matched by the Kummer Institute Foundation for a total of $700,000.

Kummer Foundation Board of Directors at Missouri S&T welcomes new members

The Kummer Foundation Board of Directors at Missouri University of Science and Technology welcomed four new members at its quarterly meeting this week. Members of the board serve four-year terms with the possibility of one renewal and are responsible for fiduciary management of a $300 million gift from Fred and June Kummer to Missouri S&T in 2020.

New book covers the life of entrepreneur Fred S. Kummer

A new biography covers the life and work of Fred S. Kummer, a philanthropist, entrepreneur and 1955 Missouri S&T graduate. The book, titled Master Builder, will be available from the S&T Store for $15 starting on Kummer Day at Missouri S&T, Monday, Oct. 9.

Missouri S&T to break ground on Protoplex, celebrate Manufacturing Day

Missouri University of Science and Technology will kick off its celebration of Manufacturing Day with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Missouri Protoplex at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. When it opens in fall 2025, the Protoplex will anchor S&T’s planned manufacturing and innovation campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Missouri S&T poised to help Missouri manufacturers make 3D printing the new normal

With the recent purchase of a large-format metal 3D printer, the Kummer Institute Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Missouri S&T took an important step toward helping Missouri manufacturers use technology to sharpen their competitive edge. The purchase was based on feedback and input from manufacturers, who report that acquiring traditionally manufactured parts has become increasingly difficult due to irregularities in the supply chain.

S&T challenges students to identify ways to positively affect campus, community

S&T students will soon have an opportunity to compete for cash prizes by voicing their concerns about areas of campus and community life they find challenging. The 24-hour Campus Impact Challenge starts Friday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m. in St. Pat’s Ballroom C of the Havener Center, where teams will be formed based on interests.
