On-campus enrollment on the first day of classes at the University of Missouri-Rolla is 4,340, slightly up from last year’s first-day enrollment, says Laura Stoll, UMR registrar.

Four communications offices at the University of Missouri-Rolla received eight awards for media relations, publications, radio production and video production from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) during the CASE District VI conference held Jan. 11-13 in Denver.

Two University of Missouri-Rolla researchers will discuss how engineering students can learn about alternative energy through student design competitions during the "Greening the Heartland 2004: Beyond Sustainability" conference set for March 10-12 in Columbia, Mo.

A group of University of Missouri-Rolla students recently turned over to the Rolla Area Sheltered Workshop four prototypes of assistive technology devices that will make jobs easier for their disabled employees.

Dr. Robert Stone, associate professor of basic engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla, will become director of the university’s Student Design Competition Center on Jan. 1, 2004.

Dr. K. Krishnamurthy, professor and associate chair for graduate affairs in the mechanical and aerospace engineering department at the University of Missouri-Rolla, will become the associate dean for research and graduate affairs in the School of Engineering on Jan. 1, 2004.
