Early in 2009, NASA astronaut Sandra Magnus concluded a four-month stay aboard the International Space Station. This month the Missouri University of Science and Technology graduate will return to her alma mater to deliver a keynote speech during Missouri S&T’s Homecoming festivities.

A student at Missouri University of Science and Technology has been confirmed to have the H1N1 virus. This is the first confirmed case at Missouri S&T. The affected student is now at permanent residence and is believed to have had minimal contact with others on campus prior to his departure for home.

Dr. Stewart Gillies, Union Pacific Rocky Mountain Energy Mining Professor at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named interim director of the university’s Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center. Gillies takes over for Dr. David A. Summers, Curators’ Professor of mining and nuclear engineering at Missouri S&T, who has served in the position for more than 30 years.
