S&T research team develops method to test insensitive explosives

The goal of developing new explosives is often to enhance their performance by increasing key metrics such as pressure and velocity of detonation while simultaneously decreasing their ability to be initiated, in order to reduce the likelihood of accidental initiation. Reducing that likelihood makes their manufacture, storage and transport safer. With the aim of helping make those processes safer, a Missouri S&T student is working with a leading explosives engineering expert to evaluate the sensitivity of explosives.

S&T earthquake experts study ground deformations in northern Hispaniola

A Missouri research team is using a grant from NASA to examine imagery from satellites owned by Japanese and European space agencies to measure the potential of future earthquakes in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Dr. Jeremy Maurer, assistant professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering at Missouri S&T, says the description may sound like a lot, but he can easily simplify everything and explain its importance.

2023 Laufer Energy Symposium to highlight life-changing new energy technologies
