Missouri S&T set to expire umr.edu web, email addresses
After July 31, the university's umr.edu email or web addresses will stop working
05/01/2008 11:06 - Missouri S&T Public Relations

Effective July 31, Missouri S&T will permanently shut down its former email and web domain -- umr.edu -- and use the mst.edu domain exclusively.

For individuals who correspond via email with Missouri S&T students, faculty or staff, or who access web content from Missouri S&T, all email sent to umr.edu after July 31 will not be delivered. In addition, websites on the umr.edu domain will no longer be accessible after July 31. More information is available at a resource site devoted to sharing information about the change.

To ensure the delivery of email and web content access, faculty, students and staff have been asked to notify their email contacts about the domain change and update any website bookmarks they may still use. Missouri S&T website visitors and individuals who send email to Missouri S&T are asked to update any website bookmarks containing “umr.edu” to “mst.edu” and update to update email contacts from umr.edu to mst.edu.

The mst.edu web and email domain has been in use for several months as a part of the university’s name change, which took effect Jan. 1, 2008. Currently, web visitors and university email contacts using umr.edu addresses are redirected to the corresponding mst.edu email inbox or website. Starting June 12, visitors who try to access the old UMR website will experience a short delay during which time a domain name change reminder message will appear. After the brief delay, visitors will be redirected to the corresponding Missouri S&T page. After July 31, UMR web and email addresses will be shut down and will no longer redirect to the new domain.

“The university is taking steps to ensure that this change in our web and email presence causes as little disruption as possible for our students, faculty, staff and those that correspond electronically with the university,” says Andrew Careaga, Missouri S&T communications director. “We encourage all university email contacts, prospective students, academic partners and website visitors to start using mst.edu and help us spread the word.”

A list of frequently used links, general information about the domain change and tips for making the transition to mst.edu have been posted on a resource site set up by the Missouri S&T department of information technology.
