Missouri S&T earthquake expert to speak at St. Louis event
Dr. J. David Rogers, the Karl F. Hasselmann Chair in geological engineering
at Missouri University of Science and Technology, will discuss detailed studies
of downtown St. Louis and make recommendations for new building codes during an
event to promote earthquake awareness on Friday, Feb. 1, at the Data Center
Auditorium in St. Louis.
Modern rock band 311 to headline St. Pat's Concert
The modern rock band 311 will headline the annual St. Pat’s Concert in Rolla
on Saturday, March 15. Ballyhoo! is scheduled to be the opening act.
Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony to perform winter concert

Tickets are now on sale for a performance of the feverish fiddler Natalie
MacMaster. MacMaster is the second performance of the spring 2008 season of the
Missouri University of Science and Technology Campus Performing Arts

Missouri S&T Family Film Series to show “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate
Factory”
The fourth season of the Family Film Series at Missouri University of
Science and Technology will offer a screening of the Paramount Pictures film,
“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” based on the book by Roald Dahl. The
film will be shown at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in Leach Theatre of Missouri
S&T’s Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla.
Missouri S&T to host opening reception for spring photography exhibition
Feb. 5
An opening reception for “Two Photographers,” an exhibition by Fred Goss and
Joshua Hoffman, will be held from 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb.5, in the lobby of
Castleman Hall on campus of Missouri University of Science and Technology.

educational programs and student design projects Jan. 23-27 at the 2008 St.

Leach Theatre to present The 5 Browns
The 5 Browns, classical music’s first family of piano virtuosos, will take
the Leach Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Leach Theatre at
Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Missouri S&T MBA Program event scheduled for Feb. 28
Missouri University of Science and Technology’s master’s of business
administration (MBA) program will host “Take a Leap with MBA: Leap Year
2008" from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Havener Center. The
event is open to all students and the public.
Missouri S&T to host GeoMO conference
The civil, architectural and environmental engineering department at
Missouri University of Science and Technology will host GeoMO 2008, a one-day
workshop on geotechnical earthquake engineering site response, from 9 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, on campus.

Missouri University of Science and Technology will offer a short course on
blasting training April 21-23.
Career fairs at Missouri S&T continue to attract employers in droves
Missouri University of Science and Technology students and graduates will
have the opportunity to attend one of the largest career fairs in the Midwest
from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. The fair will also be open to
Missouri S&T faculty and staff from 8:30-11 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. on the same
day.

Public talk on the evaluation of presidents to be given at Missouri
S&T
James Giglio, the 2008 Weiner Distinguished Professor of Humanities at
Missouri University of Science and Technology, will deliver a public talk
titled “How Historians Evaluate Presidents” at 7 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 19, in the
St. Pat’s Ballroom A of Missouri S&T’s Havener Center.

Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Miner swimming team will
offer swimming lessons to area children this spring.
High school students encouraged to learn more about financial assistance for
college
The student financial assistance office at
Missouri University of Science and Technology is hosting “College Goal Sunday”
for high school juniors and seniors from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 10. The program will
help students planning on attending a college or university in the fall with
financial aid information.

Missouri University of Science and Technology will celebrate diversity on
Sunday, March 9, during International Students Day, sponsored by the Missouri
S&T International Students Club.
100 years later, events from the first St. Pat's celebration in Rolla will
be re-enacted
This St. Patrick’s Day, organizers of
festivities in Rolla will stage a re-enactment of the town’s first ever St.
Pat’s celebration, which occurred on the campus of Missouri University of
Science and Technology 100 years ago.
Missouri S&T Jazz Band, Combo to perform May 4
The Jazz Band and Jazz Combo at Missouri University of Science and
Technology will perform in concert Sunday, May 4, to mark the end of the
current semester. The performance begins at 3 p.m. in Leach Theatre of
Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets, Rolla.
Rolla Earth Day 2008 is April 22
Tuesday, April 22, is Earth Day in Rolla. Earth Day
activities will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Havener Center on the
campus of Missouri University of Science and Technology. This year’s theme is
“Think globally, act locally.”
Missouri S&T orchestra to perform April 18
The Missouri University of Science and Technology Orchestra will host a
concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, in Leach Theatre of Missouri S&T’s
Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The performance is free for all
students with a valid student I.D. and youths under the age of 18. Tickets are
$3 for the general public and are available at the door and at the Leach
Theatre Box Office.
Missouri S&T to present choral concert April 25
The Missouri University of Science and Technology Miner Choral Guild,
University Choir and University Chamber Choir will present their Spring Choral
Extravaganza at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall,
10th and Main streets in Rolla. The performance is $3 for adults and free for
children and students with a valid student I.D.
Missouri S&T’s Spring Reading Series starts Wednesday
Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Spring Reading Series will
being at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Southwestern Bell Cultural
Center, located at 1207 N. Elm St., in Rolla. The first author featured will be
Dr. Devin Johnston, associate professor of humanities at Saint Louis
University.
Fourteen hands to play seven pianos at Missouri S&T
The 12th annual Piano Bash at Missouri University of Science and Technology
will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, April 18, in Room 138 Castleman Hall. The event
is free and open to the public.

Undergraduates to show off research at Missouri S&T
The fourth annual Undergraduate Research Conference at
Missouri University of Science and Technology will be held Wednesday, April 9,
in the Havener Center on campus. This year, 64 Missouri S&T students will
present their research efforts during oral and poster sessions. All sessions
are open to the public.
Missouri S&T theatre department to present melodrama
Missouri University of Science and Technology’s theatre program will present
an old-time melodrama titled “Wicked Work at Widow Wilkins’
Wanch...eh...Ranch,” or “The Odious Ozark Ordeal,” April 10-13 at Leach Theatre

Rolla Town Band begins summer concerts July 3
The Rolla Town Band will have its first summer concert performance at 7:30
p.m. Thursday, July 3, on the Castleman Hall Green located at 10th and State
streets on the Missouri S&T campus. This week’s concert features patriotic
music by Frank Ticheli, Carmen Ward, John Cacavas, Clare Grundman, Glenn
Osterling and John Philip Sousa.

The 2008-2009 season of the Missouri University of Science and Technology

Former South African president to speak at Missouri S&T
Missouri S&T will present a lecture by former South African president
and Nobel Peace Prize winner F.W. de Klerk as part of its Remmers Special
Artist/Lecturer Series on Monday, Oct. 20. de Klerk will be the 29th presenter
in the series.
S&T freshmen orientation fosters friendships, academic success
Incoming freshmen may find the university experience overwhelming at first.
There are many things to learn and choices to make, and it’s easy to feel a bit
lost. Missouri S&T eases this transition with an Opening Week Orientation
filled with fun and unusual activities geared to help freshmen build important
bonds with other new students and get to know mentor students, faculty and
staff.
Annual shrimp feed planned
The Central Ozarks Section of the Miner Alumni Association at Missouri
S&T and the Rolla Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers
will hold their annual shrimp feed on Saturday, Sept. 13, at pavilion 5 of
Lions’ Club Park on U.S. Highway 63 in Rolla. Pavilion 5 is located at the
front of the park. A social hour begins at 4 p.m. followed by dinner at 5
p.m.

Missouri S&T’s department of mechanical and aerospace engineering is
sponsoring a Private Pilot Ground School this fall through the distance and
continuing education program.
