Area high school students to visit Missouri S&T for FIRST robotics competition

Hundreds of tech-savvy high school students from throughout Missouri and its surrounding states will put their robotic creations to the test on Saturday, March 4, during the FIRST Tech Challenge, a regional robotics championship for high school students hosted by Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Katie Payne, the daughter of a logger and a school teacher, knew she wanted to make a big impact on the world, but it took an anatomy class at Cuba (Mo.) High School to guide her decision to go into medicine.

“When I started telling people I wanted to be a doctor, because I come from a small town with no family background in healthcare, their first reaction was to tell me how unpractical this was,” says Payne, a 2014 biological science graduate of Missouri S&T.

Her choice to attend Missouri S&T started out as an economical one, but when she saw how caring the faculty were, and started on her first research project, she knew she was in the right place. [Read more…]

Missouri S&T student dies in car accident

Renetra Osun, 23, a senior in multidisciplinary studies at Missouri University of Science and Technology, was killed in a traffic accident on Saturday, Feb. 11. She was from St. Louis.

The accident occurred at 5:40 a.m. on U.S Interstate 44 east of Rolla in Phelps County near mile marker 196.2. [Read more…]

Missouri S&T bands to make sweet music with the 399th Army Band

The 399th Army Band from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, will join the Missouri University of Science and Technology Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony for a free concert in February.

The concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at 10th and Main streets in Rolla.  [Read more…]

Missouri University of Science and Technology students seeking full-time employment after graduation or co-op or internship for the semester will have an opportunity to meet with employers at the 2017 Spring Career Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Nearly 200 companies are registered to attend the event.
