Missouri University of Science and Technology will enter the world of massive open online courses when it launches its first MOOC later this month. The course, “Effective Strategies for Group Work,” is designed to give educators strategies for incorporating group work into their own classes.

The course is an on-demand, non-credit professional development resource for educators and instructional design professionals. The course will initially be offered at no cost to allow campus officials to study the process, mechanisms and benefits of MOOCs at Missouri S&T. [Read more…]

Missouri S&T Solar Car team to race across the country

A group of students from Missouri University of Science and Technology will race a solar-powered car approximately 1,800 miles against teams from around the nation in the American Solar Challenge, a competition for collegiate design teams.

Elmore named an ASCE Fellow

Dr. Curt Elmore, professor of geological engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named an American Society of Civil Engineers Fellow.

Elmore has spent the last 30 years in the water resources and environmental engineering field. Before joining the Missouri S&T faculty in 2001, he was a consulting engineer specializing in remedial design at large formerly used defense Superfund sites. [Read more…]

For alumnus Tyrone Smith, a third trip to the Olympics

Tyrone Smith, a 2007 history graduate, will compete in the Olympics next month in Rio De Janiero.

Tyrone Smith, a 2007 history graduate, will compete in the Olympics next month in Rio De Janiero.

A decade ago, Tyrone Smith was in the process of completing one of the top careers by a student-athlete at Missouri S&T, one that saw him earn three All-America awards in the long jump and finish as the national runner-up on two occasions.
