Students’ trip to the Bahamas to combine literature and science

Students enrolled in a global foods literature course at Missouri University of Science and Technology will have an opportunity to spend a week in the Bahamas experiencing Caribbean food and culture, while others on the trip study the area’s geology and biodiversity.

Laufer Energy Symposium to be held at Boeing

Missouri University of Science and Technology, along with The Boeing Co. and Ameren Missouri, is sponsoring an energy symposium April 3-5 at the Boeing Defense, Space and Security Headquarters in St. Louis. The Wayne and Gayle Laufer Energy Symposium, “Transformational Energy Systems for a Secure Energy Future,” will bring together key business and technical leaders in both legacy and renewable energy technologies.

Sriram Chellappan receives NSF CAREER Award for Internet research

Dr. Sriram Chellappan, an assistant professor of computer science at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been chosen to receive the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious award for young faculty members for his work on understanding human behavior through Internet usage patterns.

The Lettermen to perform timeless hits at Leach Theatre Feb. 15

The Lettermen will bring their signature romantic sound to Missouri University of Science and Technology this Valentine’s weekend. A Leach Special Event, the performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Leach Theatre in Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla.

Painting donated to honor Spreng

A local artist recently donated a painting to Missouri University of Science and Technology to honor longtime professor Dr. Alfred C. Spreng, who died on Oct. 19. The professor emeritus of geology retired in 1985 after teaching at Missouri S&T for more than 35 years.

24 faculty members to receive awards at S&T

Twenty-four Missouri University of Science and Technology faculty members will receive the Faculty Achievement, Research, Service or Teaching Award for 2012. Each award winner receives a $1,000 stipend funded by industry and alumni contributions. An awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
