A mine rescue team from Missouri University of Science and Technology recently finished fifth in a simulated rescue competition sponsored by the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
Missouri S&T is the only university in the United States that trains student mine rescue teams for various competitions. The university has its own Experimental Mine.

During the competition in New Iberia, La., Missouri S&T competed against 11 teams from the mining industry.
Another team of students from Missouri S&T is competing May 19-22 at the Southwestern Mine Rescue Association Competition in Carlsbad, N.M.
The teams are judged on how well they react to simulated mine disasters.
