The awards are given annually to recognize teaching, research and service excellence. Each award winner receives a $2,500 stipend funded by industry and alumni contributions.

One of the 2007 Faculty Excellence Award winners, Dr. William Fahrenholtz, also received an engraved crystal flame for earning the award five or more times since its inception in 1986.
